Our decking customers are of two types - some would like to maintain their decks always oiled. Others like a more rustic look.

It is a matter of personal taste. If you fall into the first category, then you need to oil the fully exposed exterior deck twice a year and the semi-exposed decks once a year. Kerala weather demands reoiling as we see rains throughout the year.

If you fall into the second category, where you like the decks to be a bit rustic, get your deck sanded and oiled once in 2 or 3 years. But please make sure that it is oiled once every 3rd year. This not only adds to the beauty of the deck but also protects and improves longevity.

Why is it important that the wooden decks should be maintained regularly?

Hardwood decks are exposed to rains and sun throughout the year. Some of our decks are fully exposed to these elements like pool decks and the oil tends to go out of the wood much faster. So you need to replenish the oil once in a while. Another important factor you need to consider is that sanding the deck off will reduce the thickness and the timber will start cupping and the life of the deck will go down.
